Eric Carle Inspired Mixed Media Collages (3)
Students studied the illustrations of contemporary artist/illustrator Eric Carle. We learned that he used a variety of techniques to create visual texture for his mixed media collages. Students then observed the colors and textures we saw in our classroom snails and their habitat. We used a relief printmaking technique to create the texture of the snail's soil. We used tempura painting to mix a wide spectrum of different colored paper inspired by snail shells and plants. -
Gustav Klimt Inspired Apple Tree Paintings (3)
Kindergarten students learned about the artwork of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. We looked at his painting Tree of Life and noticed the spiral shapes he used to create the branches of his tree. Kindergarteners worked in teams to create their own 24"x36" tempera paintings of apple trees inspired by this important art historical figure.
